Kambiz Pakandam originally
born in Iran, moved to Istanbul, Turkey in 1984 where he attended an
International music Festival and was exposed to various types of ethnic
music including flamenco. He initiated his guitar studies in a local
music institute along with other instrumentalists. Four years later he
moved to California and since the early 90's he's been musically active,
performing with numerous musical ensembles as well as many great artists. Kambiz has traveled extensively throughout the world witnessing many different types of music and cultures which has helped him in his formation as a versatile musician. He lived in Andalusia Spain for over four years, more specifically in Sacromonte, Granada and Jerez de la frontera, a place known as "la cuna del cante jondo". history and the art of flamenco and guitar in general. He has learned from all walks of life, from street musicians to the greatest flamenco figures in the world, among them: Manolo Sanlucar, Jose Luis Balao, and Gerardo Nunez. All of these encounters have led him to carve a personal artistic path
through sound. He has participated in many musical festivals and theatrical
productions performing throughout Spain, Portugal, United States, Israel,
Morocco, India and Central America. Kambiz has earned two B.A. degrees
from University of Granada, Spain and California State University of
Long Beach in Interdisciplinary Studies in Ethnomusicology/Flamencology
and in the Spanish language with an emphasis on cultural studies, as
well as a minor in music theory. Kambiz currently lives in Long Beach
and performs regularly around Southern California and beyond. |
